Don't Call it a Comeback

For the past few years I’ve seen this pattern try and make a…do I even want to call it a comeback? It’s been here for years and according to my granny this pattern has never left *smiles a little then stops*.

So let me just say for the past few years I’ve seen this pattern try to stencil, needle, and thread its way to the front. And I have a feeling Fall/Winter 2012 tapestry may do just that! I have a tapestry clutch that I adore and hopefully other style soaked ladies will show tap-tap some love this year. Makes no sense for the beautiful items below to just sit out there!

Q & A the N.I.C.E. Way

Question:

Hello SOS, I will be going on a class reunion cruise in October this year and I have some issues with swimsuit wear. I am on the chunky side of the scale and I really don’t think I’ll feel too comfy walking around in swim wear. I do know that you can where wrap around skirts over the swim wear but are there other options? Is it possible that you can post some things on your SOS website or N.I.C.E. blog of different ways to rock swim wear without showing it all? Your advice and time is greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Answer:

I’m forever trying to think of an alternative to the sarong wrap over swimsuit. At one point I was shopping tunics for clients and tunics are a good option but they literally “cover up” the swimsuit. So I asked myself “How can a swimsuit be worn by those who don’t want to walk around showing folks the business (without covering the swimsuit completely)?” I instantly thought of the SKIRT. Not just any skirt but the forgiving maxi skirt or full skirt…a high waist full skirt will be even better. You mentioned “chunky” and I’m not sure if you’re busty or afraid to show a little arm, but if you are either of the two I suggest a wide brim sun hat as a topper. That way the hat will play a part in being a focal point for your top half. You can try a mix of dark color swimsuits, light color skirts, patterns, dark color skirts, and/or a light color swimsuits. And although I didn’t include the look, in the samples below, monochromatic color will do the job as well. And last but certainly not least add a wedge (but keep those flip fops close by)! Hope this helps and most of all hope you end up being comfortable.

Cringe Benefits

*Cringe* is what my mother did when I walked into church, in the outfit below, on April 15th...LOL I love that woman! When I think back on it she NEVER understood my sense of style, but she ALWAYS allowed me to express myself to the fullest! And I've benefited from it...THANK YOU MOMMIE!

This is a skirt set I bought years ago and when I purchased the set I said I'd wear the skirt with a chambray button up and the top with destroyed jeans. Saw it hanging in my closet last weekend and thought: CLICK HERE

Summer with a SIDE OF STYLE

Spring 2010 I raided SIDE OF STYLE'S closet in search of all things PRINT(Clothes, shoes, and accessories). I took those items, blended them together, and hoped to create fun photos with a summer vibe...I named the project SUMMER THIS SUMMER PRINT! I decided to do another print blend shoot last spring and here we are AGAIN! THANKS again to all that have assisted, 2010-2012, with bringing these photos to life! More SUMMER THIS SUMMER PRINT 2012 photos will be posted at www.facebook.com/sideofstyle and www.sideofstyle.com soon. Below I've also posted some of my favorite shots from SUMMER THIS SUMMER PRINT 2011 and 2010.
